Solstice Difference

Our Residential Treatment Center For Teen Girls

Solstice East has grown out of decades of experience working with adolescent girls in residential treatment. Over time, we developed a specialized, clinically intensive program based on the specific challenges and needs of young women.  The Solstice Difference focuses on respected, evidence-based approaches to the challenges our students face which include dealing with trauma, loss, emotional disturbance, relationship deterioration, and impulsive and addictive behaviors. Our holistic approach–which treats the mind, body, and soul–is just one aspect that sets us apart from other residential treatment centers.

What makes Solstice East unique?

Owner-Operated Programs for Personal Attention

Unlike many residential treatment centers for teens, at Solstice East we are a private, owner-operated program. Our mission is helping young women and their families on their life’s journey. We believe that is one of the most profound things we can do. Our founders are clinicians, and they are involved in the day to day operations. This includes running therapy groups with the girls, participating in activities, and involvement in family seminar groups and events.

Gender Specific Programs Can Offer Better Results

Success in working with young women requires specific and unique areas of emphasis, and sensitivity to how they respond to various approaches to change. As one of the best residential treatment centers, we have created a culture and approach specifically developed to fit the distinctive needs of teenage girls. Whether it is our specifically designed equine approach and addictions programs, or the clinical specialization and collaboration of our therapists, Solstice East is uniquely qualified to address the complex needs of girls in need of healing and growth.

Focus on Internal to External Change, not Compliance

Historically, residential treatment center interventions have focused solely on compliance. While compliance is important, what is more important is how it’s generated. When compliance happens through developing internal values such as respect, responsibility, love, family relationships, and personal growth it is more self-sustaining. This is in contrast to compliance that springs from fear of punishment which tends to be short lived. Self-sustaining, lifelong change is what we strive to create at Solstice East through our remarkable people and programming.

Intensive Hiring Process to Find the Best, Most Passionate People

At Solstice East, we have two staff mottos. They are: “Think Like a Mom”, which reminds us to focus on safety being our top priority and “Be an Everyday Hero” which emphasizes that doing the little things can add up to a big difference. Solstice East is committed to hiring qualified, professional, caring staff that is dedicated to helping the girls we serve. First, staff undergoes a thorough review and interview process. Upon being hired, our staff undergoes specific, regular training to continue their own personal and professional development which is essential to the life-changing work we do.

Family-Centered Approach to Repair Relationships

We offer an intensive family focus which specifically addresses relationship and family dynamics. This is accomplished through family therapy sessions, family seminars, multi-family groups and experiential interventions. This method, which fosters an environment of unparalleled and unwavering focus, has proven to be a powerful component in the process of helping families and girls create lasting change. Families are involved in their daughter’s therapeutic process throughout their healing journey.

Our Girls, Our Heroes, Their Journeys

At Solstice East, we use the archetypal Hero’s Journey to describe the therapeutic process and establish goals. Using the Hero’s Journey as a guide, students and families must learn, grow, and achieve in order to move from one phase of the journey to the next. We understand that every student and parent approaches this journey from a different perspective, takes a unique path, which allows them to pass through the stages at their own pace.
This Journey is about people, not programs. From the passionate people we employ to the families who entrust us with their children to the incredible young women who rededicate themselves to this new journey…the challenges are there, but the results are worth the effort.
