Primary Therapist

Julia Minerovic received both her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She began her career in mental health by working as an undergraduate manager in a research lab studying emotion regulation. Through this work, she developed a particular interest in understanding and helping individuals suffering from severe mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia. She went on to pursue her Master’s in counseling in order to more directly serve those seeking out emotional support.

After graduating, Julia chose to begin her counseling career as a mental health emergency clinician. She has since worked in a variety of settings including crisis response and assessment, inpatient hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and private practice. Her experience working at each level of care allows her to join her clients wherever they may be on their journeys towards wellness, and helps her to anticipate their needs at each stage of recovery.

Over the course of her years as a therapist, Julia has come to learn that the majority of people battling strong, persistent mental health concerns have unhealed emotional injuries such as trauma, grief, loss, and/or unhealthy relationship dynamics that keep them “stuck” in dysfunctional patterns. She views maladaptive behaviors as an individual’s means of surviving the difficult experiences life has thrown their way. She believes that every “unhealthy” behavior is a symptom of an unmet emotional need, and that lasting change is accomplished through meeting these needs holistically. Her primary focus in treatment is helping her clients heal the old emotional wounds that brought about these challenges while equipping her clients with the skills they need to feel a sense of safety, choice, power, and control in their own lives again. She has a particular interest in treating complex PTSD, dissociation, self-injurious behaviors, poor self-worth, persistent mood disorders, and chronic feelings of guilt and shame.

In addition to 8 years of clinical experience treating high-acuity clients, Julia has received specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in order to best support her clients through the healing process.
